Grace - Notes

Redemption!

Romans 3:23-25

Introduction:       Romans 3:23-25

Rom 3:23  For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

Rom 3:24  Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:

Rom 3:25  Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;

Redemption (Agorazo is the greek word for redemption) - Christ is our Redeemer.

In the center of the city of Rome was the Agoura - It was a location for the trading of slaves.

Exagorazo is another word for redemption. This word is different. It is to take it out, never to be returned to that place. It was a slave trade. Take them back after a time and get a new one, like a car.

Litruo - Is the word in our text. It is also different. It is to purchase for the purpose of setting it free!

He has redeemed us for the purpose of setting us free.

Through his GRACE! What is Grace?

What is Grace? V.20

“The very center and core of the whole Bible is the doctrine of the grace of God.”

J. Gresham Machen

“Grace” is the most important concept in the Bible, Christianity, and the world. It is most clearly expressed in the promises of God revealed in Scripture and embodied in Jesus Christ.

Grace is the love of God shown to the unlovely; the peace of God given to the restless; the unmerited favor of God.

“Grace is free sovereign favor to the ill-deserving.”(B.B. Warfield)

“Grace is love that cares and stoops and rescues.”(John Stott)

“[Grace] is God reaching downward to people who are in rebellion against Him.”(Jerry Bridges)

“Grace is unconditional love toward a person who does not deserve it.” (Paul Zahl)

Unmerited, undeserved, unearned favor.

Not for what we have done, but despite what we have done!

G - God’s

R - Riches

A - At

C - Christs’

E - Expense

It was Christ’s expense that brings us Grace. When He was pinned to that tree on Calvary that justifies to the father.

Eph 2:8  For by grace are ye saved through faith;

and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

Eph 2:9  Not of works, lest any man should boast.

2. What about Grace?

SAINTS - 1 Corinthians 1:2

1Co 1:2  Unto the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours:

1Co 1:3  Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.

Are heirs of GRACE

1Pe 3:7  Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honor unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.

Are under Grace

Rom 6:14  For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.

Receive Grace from Christ

Joh 1:16  And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace.

Are what they are by - 1Co 15:10; 2Co 1:12;

1Co 15:10  But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I labored more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.

2Co 1:12  For our rejoicing is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom, but by the grace of God, we have had our conversation in the world, and more abundantly to you-ward.

Abound in gifts of -

2Co 9:6-15

Should be established in -

Heb 13:5  Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

Heb 13:6  So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.

Heb 13:7  Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation.

Heb 13:8  Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.

Heb 13:9  Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines. For it is a good thing that the heart be established with grace; not with meats, which have not profited them that have been occupied therein.

Should be strong in -

2Ti 2:1

Should grow in -

2Pe 3:18  But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.

Should speak with -

Eph 4:29  Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.

Eph 4:30  And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.

Col 4:6  Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.

The gospel is all about God’s grace through Jesus Christ. That’s why Paul calls it “the gospel of the grace of God” (Acts 20:24) and “the word of his grace” (Acts 14:3).

The gospel of the grace of God is the message everyone needs. The word of grace is proclaimed from every page of the Bible and ultimately revealed in Jesus Christ. The last verse of the Bible summarizes the message from Genesis to Revelation: “The grace of the Lord Jesus be with all” (Revelation 22:21). Through Jesus “we have all received grace upon grace” (John 1:16)—the gratuitous and undomesticated grace of God.
